Review// The Nonsense Show by Eric Carle

I love Eric Carle books, there's something wonderful about his Illustrations and the way he writes his books, makes me instantly remember sitting on the carpet in reception class listening to a story & seeing all of his illustrations on the pages.

So when we were asked to review Eric Carle's new book "The Nonsense Show" I leapt with excitement, & the opportunity to pass on my love of his work to A.

As soon at the postman (A calls our postman,Pat, it makes myself & our postie laugh every time) handed A the post, I couldn't even fully open the packet before A had commandeered the book, and straight away demanded I read it to him. (I did, there and then!)

Straight away you can notice It is an Eric Carle book, the style really is in keeping with his previous books, we couldn't wait to read it (again & again!)

"Yes, there's something strange, something funny and even downright preposterous on every page of this book. But it's not a mistake-it's nonsense! And it's also surrealism.
Nonsense lies at the heart of many beloved nursery rhymes.
Children readily accept odd statements like "The cow jumped over the moon" and "The dish ran away with the spoon".
This fanciful bending of reality, is also basic to surrealism.

In this book, nonsense and surrealism combined to spark creativity and imagination.
What's true? what's impossible? what's absolutely absurd?

From Eric Carle. creator of The very hungry caterpillar, comes a book to make children laugh and think, preparing them for a lifetime of loving both words and art."

Dean & A sat down together and started reading the book straight away.

A asked lots of questions, and really liked the apple instead of a ball! his favourite question throughout was "why".

The story was easy to follow for Dean & A & the illustrations went beautifully with the story & always had A engaging on every page.

A's favourite part was counting the sheep, & talking all about the train, & how we have a train near us that looks just like the one in the book.

A loved all of the words at the end, and made Dean say them all!, even though Dean is dyslexic, A's story time today certainly put him through his paces! haha.

A & Dean really enjoyed The nonsense show by Eric Carle, it's a book that is right up their street, is full of fun, nonsense, & gave Dean & A the ability to create mini stories on each page, & had A concentrating intently from start to finish!.

And I had a lot of fun reading the book to A too, watching Dean & A together was wonderful, the questions from A, the giggles & the "look, Dada!" from A.

A even asked Dean to read the information in the back of the book about Eric Carle, & of course stare at the illustrations too.

The Nonsense Show by Eric Carle, should be a book that's definitely in your child's book collection, I have no doubt it will fast become yet another Classic book in the Carle collection.
